Shear Bolt Cable Lugs Connectors
A-1 Electricals manufactures shear bolt lugs and connectors for LV and MV power applications, engineered to deliver gas-tight connections, high tensile strength, and long-term stability under demanding service conditions.
Construction & Materials
Connector Body/Barrel Design
- Manufactured from high-strength aluminium alloy with optimized conductivity and mechanical integrity.
- Precisely machined conductor bores to accommodate wide cable ranges (Class 2 & Class 5 conductors).
- Internally pre-filled with oxide-inhibiting joint compound to prevent oxidation and moisture ingress.
Shear Bolts
- High-tensile, torque-calibrated aluminium or alloy steel bolts with controlled shear-off heads.
- Designed to shear at a predefined torque ensuring uniform contact pressure on conductor strands.
- Hexagonal drive allowing standard spanner or socket installation.
Palm / Contact Area (for Lugs)
- Flat palm suitable for busbar or equipment termination.
- Optimized palm thickness to withstand tightening torque without deformation .
- Available in single or two hole configuration as applicable.
Surface Protection
- Electro‑tin plating (typically 20 μm) for corrosion resistance and compatibility with copper or aluminium conductors.
- Smooth plated finish reduces oxidation and contact resistance over service life.
Electrical & Mechanical Performance
- Consistent Contact Pressure ensured by calibrated shear-off torque.
- Low Electrical Resistance due to full circumferential mechanical compression.
- High Pull-Out Strength meeting or exceeding applicable standard requirements.
- Thermal Stability under cyclic load and short-circuit conditions.
- Vibration Resistance suitable for outdoor and substation installations.
Standards & Compliance
- A‑1 Electricals shear bolt cable lugs and connectors are manufactured and tested in accordance with:
- IEC 61238‑1 (Electrical connectors for power cables)
- EN 50483 (as applicable)
- ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System
- CE & RoHS Compliant
Applications
- LV & MV distribution network, Utility & EPC projects, Transformer & switchgear terminations, Renewable energy installations, Retrofit and maintenance applications where crimping tools are impractical.
