When the harmonic content is low or relatively low, detuned systems may be selected (i.e. power factor correction systems tuned to a non-characteristic harmonic). This type of power factor correction allows the target power factor to be achieved without amplifying harmonic distortion. A detuned system consists of a reactor connected in series with a capacitor bank.
