HYpact – an SF₆-free hybrid compact switchgear solution enabling grid decarbonization GE Vernova’s HYpact is a compact, high-performance switchgear solution that combines the benefits of air-insulated and gas-insulated technologies within a single integrated assembly. By incorporating key substation components—including circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches and instrument transformers—HYpact significantly reduces substation footprint while maintaining high levels of reliability, operational performance, and safety. Its compact architecture simplifies engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning activities, reducing project complexity, optimizing land use, and contributing to the development of sustainable power transmission infrastructure. Building on decades of proven field experience, GE Vernova is now expanding the HYpact portfolio with HYpact-72g and HYpact-145g, an SF₆-free solution based on established g³ technology. This SF6-free HYpact delivers the same compact footprint and high-performance characteristics as the conventional design while substantially reducing the environmental impact associated with greenhouse gas emissions along the lifetime. This innovation enables system operators and utilities to advance their decarbonization objectives without compromising reliability, efficiency, or operational requirements, representing an important step toward a more sustainable power grid.
