UTC/GNSS/PTP time distribution in substations
Typically, in substations, UTC is derived from a GNSS receiver and distributed using different PTP power profiles and IRIG-B. For resilience against GNSS failures, the PTP Telecom Profile is an attractive option as an additional primary reference source for the Substation’s MUs, PMUs, etc. Time received in this fashion can be converted to power profile PTP using an inter-working function (IWF), At Meinberg, we offer this feature for all of the PTP clocks in our portfolio.
