Essex Solutions Srl’s Italian plant produces continuously transposed conductor and copper/aluminium profiles for HVDC cables
Essex Solutions is a leading manufacturer of continuously transposed conductor (CTC) and copper/aluminium profiles for HVDC cables.
The company’s plant, located in Quattordio, Italy, has recently celebrated the 60th anniversary.
Essex Solutions has introduced several groundbreaking CTC products in recent years, including Twin CTC, 60 micron CTC, Silver Alloy CTC, and Aluminium profiles for submarine HVDC cables.
The company’s R&D team works hard to create systems supporting connectivity, interoperability and scalability of the grid. Working in conjunction with international teams, it has has been able to create unique solutions for specific customer needs.
Among the recent outstanding projects are the ULTRANET Corridor in Germany, which includes complex TWIN CTC, powering HVDC transformers along 1,000km, as well as the VIKING project.
On the copper profiles, the Tyrrhenian-link is an underwater cable that will connects Sicily with Sardinia and the Italian peninsula at a depth of 2,000m. This is the deepest subsea power cable in the Mediterranean, with a capacity of 1,000MW.
Meanwhile, NeuConnect is the first direct power link between Germany and Great Britain. The project will allow up to 1.4GW of electricity, enough to power up to 1.5 million
In 2025, the Quattordio plant also reached a significant milestone breaking its own record of selling a total volume of 12,000 metric tons of CTC in a single year. The facility continues to be a hub of innovation and excellence, driving the future of CTC technology.
