Dr. Zhiyu Liao holds a Ph.D. in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from the University of Manchester, UK. His doctoral research and subsequent projects have spanned a broad range of power system challenges, including travelling wave-based transmission line protection for low fault-level networks, resilience enhancement in active distribution systems, and cyber security in digital substations. Following his Ph.D., he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Manchester on the CYBER-RAIST project, further deepening his expertise in power system cyber security. Dr. Liao currently serves as Technical Director at Wayon Energy, where he leads the development of eco-friendly switchgear technologies. His present research interests centre on switchgear innovation, power system resilience, and digitalisation areas in which he continues to bridge academic research and practical industrial applications.
